Lions Support Organ Donation Awareness in Idaho and Donate Life Month

Lions Envision Sight is proud to recognize the ongoing efforts to promote organ, tissue, and cornea donation across Idaho.

Jay Lugo, Executive Director of Envision, and former board member Curt Kelley attended a recent recognition ceremony hosted by YES Idaho. The event honored the outstanding work of the Idaho Division of Motor Vehicles in educating residents about the importance of organ donation.

The ceremony was emceed by Alex MacDonald, who also represents Envision. Attendees heard powerful and moving remarks from both a donor family member and a lung transplant recipient—reminders of the life-changing impact of donation.

Lisa McClellan, Director of the Idaho DMV, continues to demonstrate strong leadership in promoting organ donation awareness and works closely with Envision and YES Idaho to expand outreach efforts.

The Impact of Organ Donation

Currently, more than 100,000 people in the United States are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant. Thousands more require tissue and cornea donations to restore health and sight.

  • One organ donor can save up to 8 lives
  • Tissue donation can enhance 75+ lives

Idaho’s Generosity

  • 55% of Idahoans registering or renewing their driver’s license chose to be donors
  • 73 organ donors saved approximately 292 lives
  • 351 cornea donors restored sight to about 702 individuals
  • 191 tissue donors improved the lives of up to 14,325 people

These numbers reflect the compassion and generosity of Idaho communities and reinforce the importance of continued education and awareness.

Governor Brad Little also signed a Proclamation for Donate Life Month in April.

The Boise Bench Lions remain committed to supporting initiatives like Envision and YES Idaho that bring hope, healing, and sight to those in need.
