Boise Bench Lions Support Student Growth with Donation to ICBVI

The Boise Bench Lions Club is proud to continue its long-standing commitment to community service with a recent $1,750 donation to the Idaho Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ICBVI). These funds will support the purchase of materials for student-built wooden planter boxes as part of the organization’s industrial arts program.

This hands-on project allows students to design and construct planter boxes in a fully equipped woodshop, where they learn to safely operate power tools while developing patience, confidence, and problem-solving skills. Once completed, the planter boxes will be used to grow vegetable seedlings—entirely planted and maintained by the students themselves.

ICBVI offers a wide range of services, including instruction in daily living skills, non-visual techniques, and access to a Low Vision Clinic. Programs like industrial arts play a vital role in empowering students with independence and practical skills for everyday life.

This project is just one example of the Boise Bench Lions Club’s dedication to service as the club approaches its 75th anniversary. Founded on May 28, 1951, the club is preparing to celebrate this milestone in May 2027 with an ambitious goal of completing 75 service projects over the coming year.

Additional initiatives will include volunteering with local nonprofits, supporting food distribution efforts, assisting Special Olympics, and contributing time at the Lake Lowell Bird Refuge.

As the Boise Bench Lions reflect on 75 years of service, they remain committed to strengthening the community through meaningful projects like this—proving that service truly grows stronger together.
