Seeds for Independence

The Boise Bench Lions were invited to a garden party at the Idaho Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired to celebrate the Seeds for Independence project and help set up the garden boxes.

The boxes were assembled by students at ICBVI, with Lions, staff, and students all working together to complete the project. After a wonderful lunch, everyone got to work. Weed barrier was placed in the bottom of each box, followed by two inches of small rocks, and finally the plants were carefully placed inside. The plants had been started earlier in an indoor greenhouse and were ready to thrive in their new garden homes.

The garden features a great variety of produce and flowers that will be enjoyed by the staff and students at ICBVI. This collaborative effort is one of the Boise Bench Lions’ 75th Anniversary service projects, and we are proud to support independence, teamwork, and community partnerships. 🌱🌼🍅
